City of Kenmore urges residents to prepare for possible weekend snow showers
Kenmore, Wash. – The city of Kenmore strongly encourages residents to prepare for possible snow showers and freezing temperatures that local weather forecast channels are predicting for this weekend.
Residents are encouraged to stay home if roads are too dangerous for travel. If you must travel this weekend stock your car with basic winter safety equipment such as jumper cables, ice scraper, tow chains, tire chains and a small shovel. Drivers should also carry a break-down kit with road flares, blanket, gloves, warm clothing, food, water, flashlight with extra batteries and a first aid kit. Also, allow ample time to reach your destination and remember to keep your gas tank full.
Remember to use alternative heat sources safely and wisely. Follow manufacturers’ instructions. Adequately vent fueled space heaters (e.g., kerosene, propane, alcohol) to avoid fatal carbon monoxide gas buildup. Also, do not use outdoor grills or camp stoves indoors as it may cause carbon monoxide poisoning.
The city public works crews have prepared equipment such as plows and sanders to help keep streets safe. In any snow and ice event, crews will focus on primary routes first, including arterials, bus routes and designated emergency routes. Once the primary routes are open, attention will turn to secondary and residential streets. Crews will be on emergency stand-by and if called will work around the clock as long as hazardous street conditions exist. As a reminder, when following a snowplow or sander, allow at least 100 feet following distance.
To report icy or hazardous conditions during business hours, call City Hall at 425-398-8900; after hours call 206-296-8100.
The city will be releasing any information pertaining to weekend road closures through www.rpin.org, KIRO 710 news radio and KOMO 1000 news radio.
