BLOCK
WATCH PROGRAM
The Kenmore
Police Department wants to build a partnership with the citizens of
Kenmore through Community Oriented Policing. This is not a new concept,
but simply a method of policing which dates back to the 17th century.
It is nothing more than police officers and private citizens working
together to help solve community problems related to crime, the fear
of crime along with social and neighborhood concerns.
One way of building this partnership is working together through block
watches. A block watch is a meeting of neighbors with a police officer
to discuss home safety and neighborhood safety in order to lessen the
chances of you becoming a victim of crime.
Topics generally covered in the block watch meeting include: alarms,
home lighting, locks on entry points (windows and doors), landscaping,
operation identification, vandalism, vehicle prowls and bicycle theft
prevention. Once you establish your block watch you will have monthly
scheduled meeting in your homes with a patrol officer who is assigned
to patrol your neighborhood to discuss crime trends and to answer any
questions you might have. Block watches are a great way to get to know
your neighbors. It takes all of us working together to make our community
a safer place to live.
If anyone has any questions or wishes to start a block watch please
call Deputy Mark
Childers at (206) 205-7652 or Kenmore Police Chief Cliff Sether at (206)
296-5020.
