Reception for new Kenmore Exhibit “A Pictorial Celebration of Kenmore History"

The Arts of Kenmore Gallery at City Hall will host an exhibit, “A Pictorial Celebration of Kenmore History," which opened Friday, February 3 and runs through March 9.  On display will be pictorial narrative and iconic artifacts documenting hallmark moments in the life of Kenmore dating back to the settlement in 1901 by John McMaster.

The public is invited to a reception and entertaining program on Friday, February 17 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Kenmore City Hall, 18120 68th Ave NE. Members of the Kenmore Heritage Society (KHS) and others will share stories and discuss their personal favorite photos from the city’s past.

Remember when a bottle of Coke cost 25 cents and a whole case of beer (24 to a case then) sold for $2.40. In this day and age, a six-month-old cellular phone is practically antiquated.  For cars and guitars, 35 years is considered “vintage,” and to most of us, 1982 wasn’t that long ago. But when we stop to think of “heritage,” we tend to reminisce further back into the stories that built an era, a legacy, and traditions.

“Kenmore by the Lake” is the city’s moniker created by the Kenmore Heritage Society in 1998 when the city incorporated from King County.  KHS has been an active participant in designing much of the city’s iconic imagery, including a flag, logo, and extensive interpretive walkway at Log Boom Park.  Future endeavors include the third annual “A Day in the Life of Kenmore” photo contest in August and a narrative phone app to learn the secrets and backstories in the images found on the Kenmore Mural at St. Vincent de Paul.

“A Pictorial Celebration of Kenmore History” is the latest in a series of five exhibitions mounted throughout the year by Arts of Kenmore (AOK), a nonprofit organization that also produces the annual Kenmore Art Show at Bastyr University in June and funds arts grants for schools. AOK Gallery exhibits are made possible by sustaining support from the City of Kenmore, 4Culture, and the AOK membership.
